The knobs can be hand tightened, but they also have a hole drilled into them so that you can turn them tighter with an allen wrench or small screwdriver. The low model is 1/2″ high, and gives you an absolute co-witness with the Bushnell TRS 25 if you are using Troy Micro sights or running an elevated rail such as the VLTOR CASV with normal iron sights. If you are looking for a riser to use with a standard rail and standard iron sights, you want a Mid height for absolute and a High for 1/3 cowitness. Presumably this would also apply to the Aimpoint Micro, Vortex Sparc, and other mini red-dots. I can’t testify as to how level it is, but that doesn’t matter with a red dot sight. Once you have it zeroed you aren’t going to be adjusting the windage or elevation ever. If you are going to mount a scope on this, you may want to spend more money on one of the name brands to be sure you get a mount that is perfectly level. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. My only gripe about this riser is the manufacturers choice of knobs. At first it seems the stud and knob threading is different or defective by the way the knob wobbles about its axis while it is being tightened, but once it is tight, everything appears to fit correctly. Also, they used knurled knobs that can only be hand-tightned whereas most other manufacturers of rail-mounted accessories used a knurled knob with a slot that either a screwdriver or a coin can fit into. Sometimes it is that extra 1/4 turn that can make the difference between tight and loose. I guess you could use some slip-joint pliers or vise-grips to tool-tighten the riser, but that is not only inconvenient in the field, it will also tear up the knobs or lead to over-tightening/stripping. Overall, this is a great add-on that deserves 4 stars because of the quality and value, but falls shy of making 5 because it is not perfect. |
