It is a lot bigger than other bullet cameras, which may be good or bad depending on your intention. On the bottom of the camera are two knobs. One is for zoom, the other is for focus. If you zoom the camera all the way out, the field of view is incredibly wide, and it starts to approach a fisheye lens. The field is so wide that you will have to slide the hood all the way back or else it will be in your picture. If you zoom it all the way in – well it’s zoomed in, but don’t expect it to be a telescope. You will not be able to zoom in on something far away (or even across the street) with this feature – it looks more like a ‘normal’ camera with a average field of view when zoomed in. The combination of zoom and focus knobs are nice, but the challenge is getting the settings right. It is a two-person job for sure – someone to look at the monitor and someone to turn the knobs. It is a very touchy adjustment to get everything in sharp focus. The camera has a standard BNC connector and uses a standard 12V power supply. No power supply is included. The mount is aluminum and is of good quality. There are two allen screws that let you adjust for up/down/tilt and left/right rotation. It does not have a standard thread for a camera mount like many cheap bullet cameras do – you are stuck with the mount that is included. But, this is far better than the mounts that I have seen with other cameras in this price class. The night vision is better than other similar-priced bullet cameras I have tried. There are a lot of IR LEDS (which is one reason why the camera is so big) and they seem very bright. If I point it down the street, I can see reflections off of cars’ reflectors all the way down the block. However, even though the manufacturer advertises ’200 ft’ of night vision…I suppose the IR illuminates 200 feet away, but there is no way you are going to see anything with detail that far away from all the noise. Like other night vision cameras, the IR LEDS shine in the center of the scene, which looks very strange if you zoom all the way out. In that case, you see an incredible bright spot in the middle of the scene and darkness around the edges. Not such a problem if you are zoomed in. Since LEDs are very directional, this is a problem in all night vision cameras I have tried, but it is more noticable in this one because of the wide field of view. What this and all other night vision cameras need is a diffuser for the LEDs so that the light is scattered more. The LEDs are very obvious at night – looks like a big red cyclops eye in the dark. The other cameras I have been comparing it to are in the $100 range, such as the Q-see QSC48030, a Swann (model unknown), and an ebay special that claims to have a Sony CCD. This camera excels compared to those. I am hesitant to make too much of a judgement on the picture quality as of yet, because I am upgrading my DVR card to one with better video preamplifiers. I’ll update this review once I have some more qualitative measurements. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Color reproduction during the day is fantastic, and it’s night-vision range is equally good. It does take two people to align zoom/focus, but that’s to be expected. When I have a need for another camera, this will certainly be the model I’ll be looking for! |
